Lymm Minins and Juniors LOgo

IS LYMM IN YORKSHIRE? - You would have to forgive the Yorkshire locals for raising the question. Who wouldn't want to know, after Lymm RFC U10S thumped Yorkshire all comers to win the highly prestigious West Park Leeds Festival, now in its 10th season.

In scoring 26T with nil ties conceded, our boys continued their fine form in both attack & defence. Although scoring some wonderful continuity and support play tries, the highlight (picked out by our hosts), was 'the ferocity in defending and at the contact area'. Our opposition were not used to this type of pressure and how we defend aggressively - right middle and left. Wherever you go big defence and green, white and black to meet you.

After topping the round robin group, the boys met Sandal (Twickenham finalists) in the final. After Sandal comfortably defeated York, (National Champs from Twickenham), they came through as Yorskshire's top team and it was all set up for their final to win. But Lymm RFC U10 didn't read the script and the boys ran out easy winners 4T.0 in what turned out to be an embarrassingly one sided final.

Results

Wetherby v Lymm 0.6T

West Park Leeds B v Lymm 0.7T

Sandal B v Lymm 0.9T

Lymm won the group

Final - Sandal v Lymm 0.4T WON

When opposition supporters start to wholeheartedly clap the boys from the field you know that we are on the right lines. In the after match, the Yorkshire teams were keen to understand how, we could have a team, so far in front of everyone else at 9 and 10 years old. Opposition coaches were very keen to know about our playing and training methods.

Maybe it is right that the senior Yorkshire clubs haven't heard of Lymm Rugby. Well.. they have now.

With only 2T conceded all season, next week, we take our unbeaten record to the Vale Festival, where we are defending champions.

Team - Will Buckley (capt), Neil Llewellyn, Max Ure, George Monaghan, George Hughes, James Sherlock. Joe Murphy, Jack Porteous, Rhys Lilly, Heny Boydell, Luke Diamond & Will Caldwell.

LYMM RFC UNDER 10 MAKE GREAT START TO 2010 - The fixture schedule had always required that Lymm RFC Under 10s respond to some tough assignments at the start of 2010.

As the players break for half term, having played all the top Cheshire clubs, it is very pleasing to report a continuation of impressive results.

In the 1st game of January 2010, both our A1 & A2 squads defeated Stockport A1 6T.0 & 4T.0 respectively. For both to beat last seasons Huddersfield & Wilmslow Festival winners (without conceding) was a great start to 2010 and sets down our a marker to other clubs.

At Chester, 1 week later, in a re-run of the Manchester Festival final, the home team were desperate for revenge. Although, the heavy pitch made running rugby difficult, Lymm's forwards were too strong and the boys ran out easy winners 4T.1T & 3T.1T. The front row made and scored every try.

At the end of January, in a round robin challenge at Caldy, Lymm fielded our A2 squad. It was always going to be a tough test against the best A teams in the county but yet again, Lymm rose to the challenge. The main highlight was coming from behind to beat hosts Caldy 2T.1T with a never say die attitude. Unfortunately, the boys couldn't back up in the next match v Altrincham Kersal but finished strongly v Caldy A2 10T.0.

In the next game, the boys travelled to nearby Macclesfield to take on last seasons National semi finalists. In winning 3/4 matches between the A1 & A2 squads, the boys showed their dominance against a top mini & junior club. In those victories, the highlight was the final match, where Lymm defeated Macclesfield A1 5T.0. In this game, the boys reached a new level of play and scored some thrilling tries through strong running, wonderful support play and offloading.

On Feb 14th, the boys defeated a determined Wilmslow team 3T.0 & 7T.1T. With many boys not available due to half term holidays, these results demonstrate the strength in depth in this squad. Yet again it was nil tries conceded and as we go into the final quarter of the season, our A1 team is unbeaten with only 2 tries conceded.

Over the next few weeks, the squad will round off preparations for the 2010 Festival Season which starts in March. This year, both our A1 & A2 squads will compete in the National Festival at Nottingham over the Easter weekend. This event attracts the best mini rugby clubs from all over the UK. Success at Nottingham will see last years Warrington Junior Team of the Year qualify for Twickenham on Grand Final day.

LYMM RFC UNDER 10S END 2009 ON HIGH - Lymm RFC defied the winter elements this weekend (Dec 20th) by defeating Manchester 4T.0 & 1T.0 in 2 competitive contests. The games were played on Partington Sports Village 3G 'all weather' pitch. It proved to be a good decision to switch to Partington, as despite falling snow (in part), the boys served up a highly entertaining match. It wasn't pretty but strong running play and tough defending was key to victory and boys played with good attitude to secure victory.

So far this season, Lymm RFC Under 10s the squad have won 3 Autumn Festivals. That involved 2 "A" team Festivals on the same day at Stockport & Littleborough and then the prestigious Manchester Festival. Over these 3 Festivals the boys defeated the best teams from Lancashire, Cumbria, Cheshire & Yorkshire.

Since the early season Festivals, the squad has not rested on their laurels with results as follows :-

> Nov 15 v Leigh 8T.0, 8T.0, 4T.0

> Nov 22 v Waterloo 8T.0, 6T.0

> Dec 6 v Caldy 3T.0, 12T.0

> Dec 13 v Sefton 13T.0, 15T.0

> Dec 20 v Manchester 4T.0. 1T.0

That's 82 tries scored and nil tries conceded in 200 mins of rugby. Not only does this demonstrate the players all round attacking game but the squads commitment to defending. For the statisticians, the last try conceded by this team outside Festival rugby was on Feb 22 2009. This is an incredible achievement.

In Lymm RFC Under 10s, Development squad where all our players talent are nurtured for an initial period, we have the following playing record

- P11 W7 L3 D1 -

This is an excellent playing record from this new squad who are learning week by week.

All in all, a successful first half of the 2009-10 season for last years Junior Team of the Year in Warrington. However, with the major Festivals still ahead, the boys are not getting carried away and squad training will continue on Sunday mornings over the xmas break.

ITS 3 FROM 3 IN 2009/10 AS LYMM RFC UNDER 10S WIN MANCHESTER FESTIVAL - Following on from last weekends Festival success at both Littleborough & Stockport, today (Oct 11th), Lymm Under 10s won the prestigious Manchester Festival.

The boys took on and defeated the best teams in Lancashire, Yorkshire, Cheshire & Cumbria to win the North of Englands premier Festival.

Many opposition coaches commented that they were very pleased to avoid Lymm in the Festival draw and complimented our all round game and fantastic running play, despite the difficult conditions. In typical Manchester rain and damp, the boys played with outstanding attacking play being one of the competitions highest scorers on the day. As is always the case with the team it was the "whack" in the tackle that stood out as we defended our line with nil try conceded. Fantastic stuff !!

RESULTS

Lymm v Sandbach - 2.0 WON

Lymm v Sheffield - 6.0 WON

Lymm v Stockport - 2.0 WON

Lymm won group

SEMI FINAL - Lymm v Macclesfield - 1.0 WON

FINAL - Chester v Lymm - 0.4 WON

The under 10s squad also defeated Bowdon & Wilmslow in a local Tri Fxiture winning 3 from 4 matches. Well done to those boys also. Notable results included

Bowdon v Lymm 0.13T WON

Wilmslow v Lymm 0.2T WON

Bowdon v Lymm 2-9T WON

Next weekend, the squad will go for an unprecedented 4 out of 4 Festival victories in the early part of 2009-10, as we defend the trophy at the Mold Festival. This is another top class event with teams entered from Cheshire, N, Wales, N, Midlands, Shropshire & Staffordshire.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

DAY OF DAYS - Today (Oct 4th 2009), Lymm U10s won 2 Mini Rugby Festivals - at Stockport & Littleborough.

To win 2 prestigious "A" team Festivals, across 2 different counties and from 1 squad of players is a truly remarkable achievement and something quite unheard of. Further, these are 2 of the strongest northern counties for rugby in UK i.e. Cheshire & Lancashire (inc Greater Manchester).

Although only the 1st week of the 2009-10 season, many opposition coaches complimented our 2 teams in their style of play. In particular at Littleborough where our boys simply refused to be beaten in the final when Widnes were camped on our own line.

The Lymm RFC under 10 coaching staff are very pleased about the defensive effort with only 3T conceded across 2 Festival successes. Heroic stuff and opposition coaches could simply not comprehend the strength in depth in Lymm Rugby at this age grade.

With Festivals trophies prowdly displayed on the Crouchley Lane bar, right, left and centre, club steward Rick Condo struggled to find sufficient space to serve players and parents to quench those thirsty mouths after the rugby glory fields.

RESULTS

STOCKPORT FESTIVAL

Sandbach 6T.0 WON

Stockport 3T.0 WON

Winnington Park 15T.0 WON

Wilmslow 6T.0 WON

Altrincham Kersal 3T.1T WON

Manchester 4T.0 WON

Rochdale 5T.1 WON (Lymm finished top of the group)

Perhaps more pleasing to the under 10 coaches is that another group of nearly 15 under 10s trained on Sunday in Lymm - for development purposes - and didn't participate in the Festival success. This includes this seasons promising new recruits. Fantastic stuff !!
